Form vs. Function: Finding the Balance
After reading the text, navigate through the website you posted on your personal blog and see how it measures up against the suggestions made by Nick Finck. Does it strike a balance between form and function or is it dominated by one or the other? Back up your opinion with clear examples.

lisa, after reading the article, even tho I found it to be informative, I also found it to be out dated. I think a short lecture and an up to date text book would have better served the class. As far as the comments to Nick Finch's web sight, I only found two, one dated 10/29/01 and 10/19/04. As for trying to analize the balance of form and function, I think the super bowl advertisements this year were a perfect example of what's wrong when tring to achieve a balance of form and function, as they were unable to accomplish this and you were left wondering what the ad's message was and what they were selling, but then, maybe it was because of the writers strike. Also, I wonder if you could please post the assignments sooner so we'd have more time to work on them. Thanks, Richard
After reading week 3's assignment and using it as I go over the website I used in my blog I think that alot of the positives on webs in the article does fit in with the site I used. I think the form of the site is well done and the function is good as well; when you open the site in the center it shows whats new in the way of products aimed at this particular hobby, then to the left is the most recent posts so you can stay up on what's new or follow and interesting wip article. So I think it follows both form and funtion quite well.

In this weeks reading, I am in agreement with the author that form and function should be intertwined. After reviewing the website that I picked last week with this article in mind, I believe it does strike that balance. It is geared towards kids so there has to be function: children need to be able to navigate a website and find what they need or want to see without getting confused. On the other hand, it is colorful, simple, with just enough graphics on it that makes it visually appealing without going overboard and being too flashy.
This weeks reading in the paragraph of functions, I agree with the developing any successful web site you need a strong purpose to create a web site. To customize the web site is easier said than done, because other people will look at the site; if you do not know what you are doing. The balancing of the web site and posting is something that I need to work on.
I think this article serves as a good reminder that the balance of a website needs to be correct for it to be considered a good website. Most people that use the internet have seen their fair share of bad sites that they either don't know how to navigate or lose interest in all too quickly. Most of the best websites out there have a great balance. For example: when we talked about Google in class. It is both pleasing and easy to navigate. After reading this article I still feel the site I posted to be a good website. It's very easy to read and navigate, while also catchy the viewers attention with headlines and picture examples of what you might want to download. Also if you do happen to get stuck there is an extensive and easy to find help section.
wow this was a very intersting thing to read about do to the fact on the web-site itself. when he decribes how the web site need too consist of is right do to the fact of when i was trying to make one myself. another thing that caught my eye was the question about if the user knows what the site is about the bet was for that would be putting a title on it and making the url sound intersting so that people will go to the site i see if the like it. then they will tell other people about your site and then more and more people will look at it. the only thing about the site is that the picture go with the text or your web0site will go nowere
This article makes good points when bringing up two of the most points in developing a website. Me personally I think that is more important to have function more that form. Too much form can confuse a lot of people especially ones that aren’t too familiar with navigating the web. As long as a website is functional and understandable, that, to me, is what matters most. Overall the article was very good and I picked up some good pointers from it.
I think that form and function are important for a great website. As he said, most websites are the same. With the navigation on the leftvand a heading at the top. You shouldn't be afraid to make your website different. As long as it is still easy to navigate through.
"The key in the success is a solid balance of form and function..."by Nick Finck. If every site follows this rule, they shouldn’t be worry about people getting lost in their websites and trying to navigate away from them. I totally agree with the point of view of this designer. All website must have function as well as form in a limited way. For example, if a website is lack of form but it has great and needed information, it would be harder to hold the viewer attention. In addition, both items must be present along with simplicity. Let's remember it this way. Function + form = Simplicity = Success.
I Can See Where He Was Going With This, I Agree Totally. Some websites i go to lack the functions mostly, or the functions are either far too "complex" for an average person to follow or understand. so as far as the form and function is concerned, I agree with Nick Finck.
This article is very informative. I do believe that most individuals focus on form and not function. I have seen many websites that have links that go no way. It is very confusing.
i think to be succesful in building a good page is having a equal balance between form and function. not only do you want to send the information effectively quickly but you want them to be involved to be able to stay in ur page for a certain amount of time without being bored. form and funtion = success!!
